Jason Smith: It's time for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to put American security over petty potitics

(From Eighth District Congressman Jason Smith)

American security is bigger than petty politics.

In a televised Oval Office meeting with President Trump this week, both Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer admitted that the country needs stronger border security. So why are they fighting him on one-tenth of one-percent of government spending for border security?

Terrorists, drug smugglers, human traffickers, and criminal gang members don’t target their victims based on political party.

The 10 terrorists per day prevented by the Department of Homeland Security from entering our country are a threat to all Americans. The two million pounds of narcotics seized by Customs and Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security this year alone wouldn’t have ended up on just Republican or Democratic streets.

The security of our country is something both sides used to be able to agree on. In 2006, then-Senators Obama, Hillary Clinton, and even Chuck Schumer voted for miles of border protection.

In 2013 every Senate Democrat voted for ‘no fewer than 700 miles’ of border fencing. But in blind opposition to a President they’ve sworn to resist, the left is now refusing to properly secure our borders. They simply don’t believe in it anymore. If they did, they wouldn’t have advocated for eliminating the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier this year.

President Obama had no problem working to give Iran – a state sponsor of terrorism – $150 billion in sanctions relief. Ridiculously, his administration sent the Iranian regime a $1.7 billion cash payment. And just to get other countries to come to a meeting about climate change, the previous administration committed to send $3 billion overseas. I haven’t heard a single person on the left outraged that American taxpayers pay $18.5 billion every year in Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants. I haven’t heard any opposition to the fact that illegal immigrants cost our economy roughly $100 billion per year. But $5 billion to secure our border is all of a sudden a ridiculous ask?

If there is a government shutdown, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi will undoubtedly try and place the blame on President Trump.

They will, of course, fail to mention that Chuck Schumer had no problem shutting down the government in January, prioritizing an unconstitutional immigration program over funding health insurance for the neediest American children. They’ll fail to mention that we have already funded 75% of the government through the end of the next fiscal year. The troops are funded, post offices will be open, and retirees will continue to receive their social security payments. That’s not to say there will be no consequences for a portion of our government shutting down.

The vast majority of the men and women who work to keep our country safe at the border will be forced to work without pay during the holidays. The same goes for more than 40,000 federal law enforcement and correction officers who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

The American people want border security. Hard working Americans are tired of seeing our laws disrespected and their tax dollars pay for people who don’t play by the same rules. It’s time for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to put American security over petty politics and properly fund border security.

Jason Smith, Your alternative facts are just more lies. The orange moron you call president said Mexico will pay for the wall. You republican's are now asking us to pay for Trump's monument to himself.
Most Americans do not want to see the government shut down. In a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, 57 percent said President Trump should compromise on the border wall “to prevent gridlock,” while 36 percent said he should not compromise on the border wall “even if it means a government shutdown.”
And that reflects a larger trend — in CBS News polls that have been conducted since July 2016,1 Trump’s border wall proposal has generally been unpopular, except among Republicans:

Jason Smith should be the first of the MAGA heads that donate $100 to Trump to build the wall. If all 60 million that voted for him wanting a wall paid $100 each, there would be more than enough money. If you ain’t gonna put up, shut up!

Oren, I am not a Republican and I am fine "shutting down" the government over this. Do a little homework and look up the video and audio clips of Pelosi, Schummer, Obama and Hilary expressing their support for tightening boarder security in the past. Yet when someone comes along and tries to do just that they act like it reprehensible. Politicians play both sides of issues to keep the public outraged and divided and simpletons like you fall for it every time.
Government shut down? Look up what that really means. It doesnt amount to anything and yet it is used as a boogeyman and people like you cower.

Neatly packaged politics for all the little minds.

Harvey, your ridiculous obsession with anonymous postings here is starting to be nauseating. I believe you are simply trolling now because no one could possibly be this obtuse?
Or could you?

Harvey Hutchinson said...

Anonymous equals dishonesty; pure and simple!!
Yes m, I am obsessed with dishonesty, starting with Hillary and Bill Clinton.

9:55 you can label that any way you want to; or better yet stick it up your ass.

Now does your feeble mind understand a little?

As the Captain told Cool Hand Luke, “What we got here, is a failure to communicate.” Harvey is NOT being obtuse, he fights logic, tooth and nail. Just your typical MAGA supporter, that understands less English than the immigrants they fear. Very introspective, lol, my that’s a big word for such a little man. Harvey is a slightly less educated Mike Landis, but with the same “little man syndrome” of calling anonymous commenters cowards, talking a big game without the ability to back it up. Look at his photo he proudly posts, he’s about five foot tall, but thinks he’s John Wayne. He reminds me of the scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz”, only less lovable.

I wish our esteemed congress of republicans would address and answer why so many of Trumps pick for cabinet members are under investigation for abuse of their position with regards to use of public funds for personal gain or vacations. It seems funny that Wikipedia when queried about the number of people in and out of this administration dwarfs so many of the past three administrations. His choice of people serving is an embarrassment to our country and the voters who blindly followed the republican Kool-Aid given to them. It is without a doubt one of worse corrupts administrations ever and with a President, including his family, under investigation on 6 different fronts lends one to suspect our republican congressmen/women might also need further investigation for their silence in the matter of abuse of office.

To Anonymous 12:19 AM "Yet when someone comes along and tries to do just that they act like it reprehensible." Did your little mind forget your orange dotard said Mexico would pay for the wall?
I couldn't care less if Trump does shut down the government. These complicit republicans can't do anything anyway but hide from Trump's ignorance. It is going to hurt the government workers, but the good ol' congressional fools still get paid. There's your neatly packaged politics for your alleged mind.

Oren, so angry.
Did Obama ever make a mistake? Is Bill Clinton a rapist? Has Trump ever done anything right? Has any Republican ever done anything good? Come on Oren, let everyone here know you aren't just spewing partisan nonsense.

I agree! Build the wall. We will gladly pay for it. Every illegal getting asylum is receiving $3400 a month, plus housing, free medical and food stamps. They live better than you liberal hacks! #BuildTheWall

To Anonymous: The U.S. doesn’t have a federal assistance program for refugees. So, if there’s no program, then there’s no monthly payment of $3,800 to refugees! You did not read the rest of the article from https://www.earnthenecklace.com/fact-check-illegal-refugees-get-federal-assistance/. In order for refugees to get money they have to be signed up or documented. I do not disagree that we need an enforceable border security program, but I resent a border. Canada seems to be able to handle people and it isn't pretty to watch; you enter, you leave. No further questions. And if you want to live in Canada, you had better have a sponsor and some serious money in your possession. Remember, relations between Anglo-Americans and Mexicans were often characterized by culture conflict and intercultural hostility, but the Mexicans, like the Native Indians, were here very early in America's settling. We can't pick and choose who we want to enter our country on the color of their skin. I am white, blue-eyed, and here in the United States because my German ancestors thought this would be a great place to find safety and prosperity. They could have lived in poverty, but they chose not to. They also had to follow the immigration rules of that time and I expect the people who are wanting to come to America now should be following the rules today, but the rules have to be enforced. A wall isn't going to change anything except cause ethical problems.

Gretchen, you say that you resent a border but yet feel people should follow immigration laws. How can you have it both ways? Without a border there is nothing to prevent people from entering. It is like saying you agree with speed limits but you don't feel law enforcement should stop those who speed. I am all for letting law abiding people from anywhere in the world enter the country legally. But I know that without a secure border there is no country.
