Tom Qualls, 32, was arrested October 25, 2017, following the execution of a search warrant at his Neosho home by the Newton County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team.
The search was described in Qualls' plea agreement filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Springfield.
This search warrant was based upon information received from a reliable confidential informant (RCI) that had been in the residence on or about October 18, 2017, and had observed the defendant in possession of distribution amounts of marihuana and numerous firearms.
Upon NCSO detectives’ entry into the home, they made contact with the defendant. The defendant stated that behind the bar in the garage of the residence were two shotguns and a distributive amount of marijuana.
Detectives searched this area of the residence and found that the garage that had been converted into a bar. In the garage/bar, detectives found two shotguns behind the bar near a canister of marihuana and a blue marihuana grinder.
The shotguns were identified as: 1) Maverick Arms, model 88, 12 gauge shotgun bearing serial number MV24523X (modified barrel less than 18 inches); and, 2) Savage Arms, model Stevens 520, 12 gauge shotgun bearing serial number 71641.
They also located a one-gallon size bag of marihuana, one vacuum-sealed bag with THC powder, and one digital scale covered with marihuana residue.
An additional search of the residence revealed 10 firearms and additional marihuana.
In total, law enforcement officers discovered approximately 313 grams of marihuana. The defendant admits that he possessed the 313 grams of marihuana discovered by law enforcement on October 25, 2017, with the intent to distribute.
Further, the defendant admits that he possessed the: 1) Maverick Arms, model 88, 12 gauge shotgun bearing serial number MV24523X (modified barrel less than 18 inches); and, 2) Savage Arms, model Stevens 520, 12 gauge shotgun bearing serial number 71641, in furtherance of his possession with intent to distribute 313 grams of marihuana.
Qualls had a previous felony drug trafficking conviction.
Judge David P. Rush ordered a pre-sentence investigation.
