A Joplin man was sentenced to 20 years in prison today for the January 11, 2019 murder of Shawn Rockers, 27, Joplin.
As part of a plea agreement, Michael J. Osborne, 34, pleaded guilty to second degree murder. Osborne had originally been charged with first degree murder. A felony armed criminal action charge was dismissed.
Osborne admitted to stabbing Rockers in the chest with a knife.
Rockers was taken to Freeman West Hospital where he died. A witness saw the stabbing and identified Osborne through a photo lineup.
According to the probable cause statement, another witness said Osborne had an altercation with Rockers a week earlier and said he was going to kill him.
