The Barton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed a financial exploitation of the elderly charge today against Ashley Gastel, 39, Lamar, the former activities director at Truman Healthcare.
Gastel is already awaiting trial on an earlier financial exploitation of the elderly charge.
According to the probable cause statement filed in Barton County Circuit Court, Gastel used her position to gain the confidence of an elderly woman who allowed Gastel to use her Humana Program Card to buy groceries.
From the probable cause statement:
On July 14, 2025, Officers took a report regarding the financial exploitation of the elderly person or person with a disability.
On July 14, 2025, Officers spoke with an employee, and bank statements were provided showing the use of the Humana Program Card.
The employee said she believes the suspect is Ashley Gastel. Ashley, who was employed with Truman Health Care as an Activities Director, took advantage of the victim by gaining her trust and offering to purchase groceries for the victim. For each day the unauthorized purchase took place, a photograph was taken showing Ashley swiping the card at the register at Walmart.
The probable cause statement showed Gastel used the card 26 times for unauthorized purchases ranging from $2.42 to $111.11.
The Lamar Police Department's investigation into Gastel's activities resulted in the first financial exploitation of the elderly charge, which was filed July 9.
Gastel's initial appearance in Barton County Circuit Court on that charge was held August 11. The next hearing is scheduled for October 7.

There is no punishment great enough for someone that abuses an elder or a child. I hope Ashley Gastel, gets the severest punishment possible for her crimes.
