Jason Smith on Charlie Kirk's murder: America has lost a warrior

(From Eighth District Congressman Jason Smith)

On September 10, a widely attended debate on a college campus in Utah suddenly turned into a horrific tragedy when an evil lunatic armed with a rifle murdered Charlie Kirk, the most influential conservative leader of his generation.

Like millions of other Americans and so many around the world, I am absolutely heartbroken that this young man was brutally assassinated. He was a good friend, a loving husband, and a dedicated father to his two young children. I cannot imagine the pain his family is going through. Please join me in praying for him and his family.

Charlie Kirk devoted his life to raising the next generation of Americans to love our country. He was a true believer in the teaching and practices of Christ and spoke and lived his faith. He opened up conversations few dared to begin, showing how we can confidently make America even greater through thought and word. America has lost a warrior.

What happened on September 10 should not occur anywhere in the world, let alone in the United States. We live in a country built on the principle of free speech, which is a cornerstone of democracy. We cannot let America become a nation where assassinations and violence are used to influence the outcome of elections or make people afraid to voice their beliefs. Every American – regardless of their political beliefs – should be alarmed that an innocent man was murdered while engaging in a thoughtful debate about the issues facing our nation.

Like so many Americans, I was disgusted that shortly after the news broke that he was shot, the liberal media immediately blamed Charlie Kirk for his own murder. We saw an analyst on MSNBC describe Charlie Kirk as a divisive figure, and that “Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.” And on social media, demented individuals were celebrating the murder of this young father. It makes me sick.

It’s time for America to have a serious conversation about the unacceptable rise in political violence and the dangerous rhetoric that’s fueling it.

Last year, there were two assassination attempts against President Donald Trump. A young Jewish couple was murdered in cold blood by a radical Hamas sympathizer at an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. back in May. And in 2022, a radical pro-abortion activist traveled to the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh with plans to kill him. These are just a few examples of how serious and common political violence has become over the last few years.

The Left paints conservatives as fascists and nazis, even going as far as comparing President Trump to Hitler – the most evil person in history who murdered millions of innocent people. This type of language is wrong and irresponsible. I had hoped that leaders on the Left would have toned down the rhetoric after the first assassination attempt against President Trump. They didn’t. I don’t know what it will take, but the violent rhetoric has to stop before another evil lunatic decides to take the life of an innocent person because of their political beliefs.

Americans are rightly worried about the future of our great nation. But we cannot let fear or political violence silence us. As Charlie Kirk once said, “If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas – not run away from them or try and silence them.” While Charlie Kirk is no longer with us in the flesh, his fight for a stronger America will continue for years to come.

More rightwing nut propaganda from our favorite partisan hack. To listen to you republicans you would have us to believe that your victimization compares to none other. Yes, the assassination was tragic and unfortunate. But your short and very selective memories neglect the fact that you too, have stoked the flames of hate and continue to do so even louder from your "fearless" orange cult leader, all the way down to your basic maga minion on the street. Your assassinated conservative hero may possibly have been an upright fellow. He was no Mother Teresa when it came to anyone not maga. Ask anyone supporting gun control, basic human rights to immigrants, the lgbrq community, and anyone not white.

402, your time is up. Immoral, ignorant, hypocritical, virtue signaling backwards aka "progressive" ideology. We allowed you and your kind to degenerate society for far too long. Its time to take the country back to its roots.
Quick test to see if you're someone who notices patterns and has an IQ above room temp or if you're someone completely and hopelessly brainwashed. Was the country/society better in the 1950's when it was a mostly Christian, homogeneous place, OR, is it better now after decades of mass immigration and Christian values replaced with LGBT and communistic ideas?
Hey, don't dismiss this as some troll trying to be a tough guy on the internet, you guys are actually done here. Maybe you haven't noticed it yet but the country is literally on the brink of destruction and the "tolerant" left keep poking the bear. Actual violence has only been coming from one side, the left, you might think words you don't agree with are super scary and "violent" but just you wait... you're not going to be so concerned about illegal immigrants rights when the bear starts fighting back.

7:13, you sound like a typical racist. How is going back to the fifties great for the country? Did you skip the history classes about the Jim Crow era? I guess if you are a foul subhuman being, it sits well with you.

3:55 You may need to take a US history course because the inscription “In God We Trust” was not inscribed on the United States paper money until 1957. Some coins had it inscribed in 1853 but was not a law requiring it until later. Therefore your premise of our country being founded on Christian religion is a fallacy on your and many others beliefs. Some of our founding father’s were deities. Some had religious beliefs and others did not. Many early settlers came here to escape persecution for their religious beliefs while seeking religious freedom. That is why there is an amendment for freedom of religion separating church and state. Not one person in this country is required to participate in any religion unless they wish to, nor is any person in this country required to be a Christian. Each person is allowed to have their own beliefs about everything, regardless of what others may believe. This world would be a very boring place to live in if everyone was required to believe the same as everyone else. To try and force your beliefs on someone else is downright ridiculous and insulting. I have been told all my life that there is only one true judge and that is God. Why are you and others trying to do God’s job, I believe if he is real, he would not approve nor appreciate your actions in trying to take his job away. When we point fingers at others there are 4 fingers pointing back at you..

Those of you who celebrate, or excuse the murder of Charlie Kirk bring shame to our City. I am reminded of this verse. Proverbs 17:25 He that justfieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.

Meanwhile, MAGA is giggling about separating families and injustice from a corrupt system. But yeah, don't say anything bad about the Nazis.

I have to burst your bubble.
The founders were not "deities" nor were they Deists.
"In God We Trust" was first placed on US currency via an act of Congress in 1864.

""The general Principles, on which the Fathers Atchieved Independence, were the only Principles in which, that beautiful Assembly of young Gentlemen could Unite, and these Principles only could be intended by them in their Address, or by me in my Answer. And what were these general Principles? I answer, the general Principles of Christianity, in which all those Sects were United: And the general Principles of English and American Liberty, in which all those young Men United, and which had United all Parties in America, in Majorities Sufficient to assert and maintain her Independence."
"Now I will avow, that I then believed, and now believe, that those general Principles of Christianity, are as eternal and immutable, as the Existence and Attributes of God: and that those Principles of Liberty, are as unalterable as human Nature and our terrestrial, mundane System." John Adams letter to Thomas Jefferson, June 28th 1813
Primary source: https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Jefferson/03-06-02-0208
Second source, from the book: The Founding Fathers: What Did They Really Say? Evidence that the US was founded on God & Christian principles

Now, we can also read through the many Presidential proclamations recommending a day of prayer and thanks to God.
If you prefer a more recent proclamation, I can quote Barack Obama and Joe Biden both stating the history of God's involvement in the founding of this country.
I also suggest that you read the definition of deism and what a Deist believes.
Because a Deist has no reason to pray to God.
Our founders recommended national prayer because they believed that God does intervene in human events.

The Coinage Act of 1864 was a United States federal law passed on April 22, 1864, which changed the composition of the one-cent coin and authorized the minting of the two-cent coin. The Director of the U.S. Mint developed the designs for these coins for final approval of the Secretary of the Treasury.
