McDonald County R-1 officials reportedly placed high school art teacher Sabrina Cole on administrative leave earlier this week due to a post on her Facebook page following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Cole's post doesn't celebrate Kirk's death, but questions why people are so sad about his death and refers to him as a "very well-known fascist and zionist."
The post was reportedly set to private and was only to be shared with Cole's friends, but it did not take long for screenshots, such as the one shown on this post, began circulating.
The post began a social media battle between those who wanted Cole to be fired immediately and those who defended her First Amendment rights and noted that she did not make her statements in the classroom.

Having an opinion as a teacher is a risk. Celebrating a death publicly is pure evil.
She has a right to her opinion even if you or myself don't agree with it. Everyone is quick to point fingers and blast others on social media but where is the fire at when two employees at that school were arrested for SEXUAL reasons. Sleeping with a student and putting cameras in a locker room to see naked underage girls. That uproar lasted for two days and everyone was quick to move on. But let's fire a teacher over an opinion.
Targeting someone for sharing personal beliefs on their own social media—outside of their professional role—is not only unfair, it’s against the spirit of community dialogue. Assuming that personal views automatically influence professional conduct is a broad and unfounded leap. If Christian values like “thou shalt not kill” and “love thy neighbor” are the foundation of your concern over Charlie Kirk’s murder (which was wrong), then it’s inconsistent to dismiss the suffering of others facing violence or genocide. That’s exactly what she was trying to highlight.
Are we honoring Charlie by calling for the persecution of all these teachers? The man’s entire message was let’s have a conversation about our differences!

There's a difference between gloating about someones death, saying he was asking for it, or using it ignorantly and with inappropriate timing to push a political agenda vs saying that you're simply not sad because he supported a regime that is responsible for the death of thousands of Palestinians.
