Goodman woman files $1.3 million plus lawsuit against La-Z-Boy

A Goodman woman filed a $1 million plus lawsuit against La-z-Boy, Inc., last week in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Lori Ann Adams claims La-Z-Boy officials violated her rights under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act by firing her on Sept. 2, 2004. She says she suffered more than $300,000 in actual damages for lost wages, benefits, "diminished future earning capacity, lost career and promotion opportunities, job search expenses, and general non-monetary damages in the form of severe emotional and mental distress and anguish, pain and suffering, humiliation, inconvenience, embarrassment, loss of sleep, decreased self-esteem, anxiety and depression, loss of enjoyment of life."
Ms. Adams is also asking for $1 million in punitive damages.
Ms. Adams, who had been working for La-Z-Boy since 2000 was approved for a Family and Medical Leave Act leave on Aug. 25, 2004, after she suffered an anxiety attack following "an incident at work," according to the lawsuit, which indicated she has a history of "chronic depression and anxiety attacks."
When she returned, the petition said, she was fired "for false and pretextual reasons, allegedly for refusing to perform work she was instructed to do and for falsifying the reason she needed to leave."
Ms. Adams is requesting a jury trial.

And, trust me, La-Z-Boy has violated FMLA plus many more rules! Worked there and seen it for myself!

Just my opinion but:
La-Z-Boy=home of the screw over. AS long as your supervisor thinks or knows you will allow him special treatment then you can usually keep your job. That is until he or she finds another playmate to replace you with. Every rule is meant to be broken by some of the good ole boys out there and will be overlooked by management depending on who the good ole boy is or is kin to.

More like Hotel California. You can check out but you can never leave. At least not with the sanity you came in with after all the games and b.s. that goes on there. I say sue the heck out of them and hang 'em high!
I am surprised there has not been more sexual harassment suits, along with many more. The management running that joint are jokes that aren't capable of doing the job. How did the Operations Manager get his job? Wasn't his smarts we know that for sure. Send him to China where he will make as much sense talking English to Chinese speaking only people as he does here at La-Z-Boy....NONE. I have wondered if when his sister was accused of embezzling that money from the courthouse when she was employed there if she paid someone to give him a better job. Makes more sense than someone actually thinking he could actually do that job well.....and by the way for those of you who doesn't know if he does a good job or not....HE DOESN'T... in my opinion and many others.

I have often wondered how La-Z-Boy can make you sign out for lunch every day and if the floor is busy you do not get to take your 1/2 hour lunch... or make you work extra hours with the new special sales they are having, some days 8 to 14 hours a day no extra pay or breaks off the floor... they are good ole boys club and no one can stop them

I live in a La-Z-Boy town. You should listen to the horrible noises coming from their plant. They basically "straight pipe" their exhaust, presumably because they don't care about people, laws, or doing the right thing. They are damaging the environment and putting the health and welfare of people in the area at risk. I guess the only thing that matters to them is making money. I have also heard horror stories of how bad they treat their employees. I will never buy a La-Z-Boy product, and hope you won't either.
