Skelton: Vicky Hartzler an enemy of the right to bear arms
This is part of the attack that has Fourth District Congressional challenger Vicky Hartzler seeing red, as incumbent Ike Skelton accuses her of being soft on Second Amendment rights and opposing the interests of the NRA:

Not a fair rap and one addressed in a previous posting of yours quoting her:
"Her 1999 vote against sending a right-to-carry initiative to a vote of the people was a principled stand based on her belief that our Second Amendment rights are enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and should not be put to a popular vote."
This was a good call, seeing as how the referendum was indeed defeated since more than just gun owners were voting on it.
This is why we are a Capital C Constitutional republic and not a democracy at both the state and Federal levels. Rights are not something you put to a vote.
Ike is lying on this one. Vicky has been endorsed by The Western Missouri Shooters Alliance, the largest Grassroots Second Amendment Group on the Western Side of Missouri, and endorsed by Gun Owners of America, with an "A". They gave Skelton a "C" rating. Vicky voted WITH the Second Amendment groups in MO. on Right To Carry. You can check both groups web sites for verification.
On Veteran's, I don't see how voting against a bill that will take money away from Veterans Homes (considering all they have done for our country) can be considered anti-veteran. I think the residents of Veterans homes thank her.
Unfortunately the GOA ratings have recently become all but useless after they started scoring a number of not directly related to the RKBA items like Obamacare (although scoring the DISCLOSE Act (McCain-Feingold version 2) is appropriate whereas the NRA made their own corrupt deal for it ... which not coincidentally cuts off organizations like the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance at the knees).
So they dinged Skelton for voting for the Obama stimulus bill for which the RKBA issues are highly speculative.
Now here's the weird thing: they say Skelton voted against every carry guns in National Parks vote and all those votes and their scoring look good, whereas the NRA says he voted for us on that.
Turns out the GOA didn't score H.R. 627, the "must pass" credit card bill that Senator Tom Coburn (who as far as I can tell is the only member of Congress who really cares about gun issues, e.g. look at his actions WRT to the M16/M4) got that concealed carry in National Parks amendment attached to.
Even worse for the GOA's credibility, Pelosi was kind enough to split the voting for the Senate version into two roll call votes, one excluding this provision and one only on it, so the latter vote is perfectly "clean".
Something is very wrong when the GOA doesn't score the single most important gun vote of 2009....

Funny how Vicky Hartzler is the enemy of gun owners, but Ike's good pal Nancy Pelosi is such a great champion of the 2nd Amendment.
Decisions have consequences. Voting for and with such a divisive and liberal leader like Nancy Pelosi should cost Ike his job.
