Perhaps it will be a government building.
Or maybe the U. S. Post Office can be convinced that it would be a great idea to consolidate its two Joplin Post Offices to one and move there.
At the least, 1301 Virginia, the old Coca-Cola Building may become a repository for broken promises.
The Joplin Redevelopment Corporation will meet at 4 p.m. today on the third floor at City Hall and, according to its agenda, will extend a lifeline to master developer Wallace-Bajjali to buy the Coca-Cola Building.
The sale was supposed to take place last month and mark a turning point in the $794 million project- the first piece of property to be bought back by Wallace-Bajjali from the JRC. The sale was not even discussed at the May JRC meeting because as far as its members were concerned, everything was on target.
David Wallace had not given them any reason to believe that the buyback had hit a snag.
According to Wallace, the lender he had lined up for the project backed out at the last minute.
The Coca-Cola building was originally slated to house the post office, plus government offices, but the Post Office did not show any particular interest in the idea, even though it is still being pushed by Wallace-Bajjali.
It appears the relocated Post Office may go the way of the combined library/movie theater.

What is up with always wanting to move the post office? Joplin is big enough for two locations. If growth is going to happen, auxiliary stations would be good to have. Like inside grocery stores and such.
This is like the library idea. We don't need to close the current library. Our town could support two branches. It would certainly make access easier for many people.
Maybe part of why they can't accomplish anything is because they keep coming up with lame brained ideas like these.
Maybe that's a part of their way to rip us all off.
So these development geniuses can't get anyone with money to see things their way? What's the world coming to?
What exactly was it that you hired these Carpetbaggers to do?
How much more information does the JRC need on Wallace-Bajjali to realize these people are con artists? It's time to cut them loose before more time and money is wasted on these jerks.
