August hearing set for former Joplin teacher on sex charges

A 9:05 a.m. August 7 hearing has been scheduled in Jasper County Circuit Court for former Joplin High School communication arts teacher Jessica Low, who faces felony charges of statutory rape, statutory sodomy, and furnishing pornographic materials to minors.

Mrs. Low was arrested shortly after the end of the school day May 29 at the 9-10 center (the former Memorial Middle School) where she taught.

The probable cause statement alleges she had sex with a 16-year-old boy at his home ontwo occasions and sent nude photos of herself participating in a solo sex act to that boy and another 16-year-old boy.

Mrs. Low was completing her second year as a teacher in the Joplin R-8 School District.
