McCaskill: Demand Congress protect Planned Parenthood funding

(From Sen. Claire McCaskill)

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, so I know a thing or two about how important preventive care is.

It infuriates me to no end that Republicans would defund Planned Parenthood and leave millions of Americans – many of them in our most vulnerable communities – without the same access to vital care that I've been so fortunate to have.

If you feel the same way, I need you to speak your mind – loud and clear – to demand Congress protect Planned Parenthood funding:

Add your name to tell Congress: Protect Planned Parenthood funding.

Cancer screenings, birth control, prenatal care – these are the services that would be cut if Republicans get their way. What good does that do our country?

Americans overwhelmingly support Planned Parenthood, and millions rely on it, but Republicans are still moving full speed ahead with plans to defund the organization. I need you to join me and speak out right now:

Add your name to join me and demand Congress protect Planned Parenthood funding.

I'm not going to stop fighting for this.

Republicans are so intent of saving a fetus that they are willing to let the mother die.

Planned Parenthood provides a needed service in SW Missouri. I know many women who have used Planned Parenthood for their cancer screening checkups and access to birth control. Planned Parenthood charges for these services on a sliding fee schedule, which means their services are affordable to women who would otherwise not have access to health care. The witch hunt against Planned Parenthood conducted by elected representatives, such as Rep. Chaffetz of Utah, does nothing to help women and their families in this country when it comes to family planning and women's health. If Planned Parenthood is shut down there are few other places for millions of women and their families to go for these vital services that are readily available and at an affordable cost.

I will never support in any way the number one provider of abortions in the U.S. There are all over the U.S. organizations like Life Choices in Joplin that truly provide the care that Planned Parenthood "says" they provide, but do not.
Have you ever actually seen an abortion, Mrs. McCaskill? Surely not. Because if you had, you would never support Planned Parenthood.
My heart breaks for those precious women who bought the lie that PP sells. Evidently you bought it, too, Mrs. McCaskill.

Planned Parenthood performs abortions. Claire McCaskill wants all federal taxpayers to pay for abortions when whether an abortion will be allowed should be left up to the states. Missouri would doubtless be a state in which abortions would be outlawed or severely curtailed if left up to the Missouri legislature.

Planned Parenthood could get out of the abortion business and just do the women's health operations. It chooses not to do so, preferring to claim that the few good things it does with federal taxpayer money outweigh the evil it does by performing abortions.

President Trump should sign an executive order de-federalizing abortions, bringing it back to the states, and likewise letting the states decide if they wish to subsidize abortion mills and parting out of fetuses. Or, as is likely in forty out of fifty states, not.

Claire McCaskill will be an ex-senator two years from now. She knows that and has gotten increasingly shrill.

Planned parenthood provides vital services on a scale that makes them far more effective than the so-called alternatives. It also provides abortions which are legal - although they are not, in conformance with a totally absurd law, the Hyde amendment, funded by taxpayer money. So if it bothers you, be assued, you aren't paying for it.

Let me also assure you that abortion does not universally excite the hysterical horror that seems to animate so many of the folks who have persuaded themselves that incipient human tissue is the same as fully developed babies and should take precedence over the adult woman upon it is dependent to develop. Many of us don't appreciate having absurd, fanatical, often religiously motivated beliefs forced on us when we don't share them. We would never try to make these fanatics have an abortion so why are they trying so hard to control our decisions?

And, yes, if you're wondering, I know several women who've had abortions. Few, if any of them regret it and we're all just glad that they cold get a safe, legal abortion rather than the back-alley variety that was common in my youth. We're also glad that planned parenthood is there for all the vital services it performs in addition to abortion.
