Carthage Press website redirects visitors to Neosho Daily News

GateHouse Media officials are erasing all traces of the Carthage Press website a few short days after they closed southwest Missouri's oldest newspaper.

Those who go to the Carthage Press website are automatically redirected to the Neosho Daily News website.

As if anyone who has been subscribing to the Carthage Press is going to go to the Daily website to get Carthage news.

Even as GateHouse officials promised in the final edition of the Press Wednesday that major Carthage news would be covered in the Neosho Daily, they were fully aware that was not going to happen.

The Neosho Daily had a three-member news team prior to last week when the company accepted a voluntary buyout from one of those three.

It is going to be hard enough for the Daily staff to cover Neosho.

The out-of-state owners also seem to have no clue if they think that a Carthage and Neosho combination would work well. The cities are in different counties and have few news events in common.

And now Carthage Press readers no longer even have an opportunity to chcck out the website and archives while they are processing that the newspaper no longer exists.

For the moment, the Carthage Press Facebook site is still available. It was even updated once after the closing of the Press with some filler material about watermelons.

Considering how seedy GateHouse Media officials are, that is fitting.

One thing you will not find on the Carthage Press Facebook page is anything about the Press being shut down.

Perhaps GateHouse officials think they can find a way to milk a few more cents out of a community after looting it one of its most prized possessions.

"Most prized possessions"?

Don't look like most people valued it much to me.

The local newspapers were in a state of decline long before they were parted out for scrap. They were not even as useful as a 58 Buick.

Corrupt and lying reporters lke you means that most of us are glad the newspapers are largely gone.

9:39pm = Typical RWNJ who gets their 'news' from the modern day equivalent of bathroom graffiti aka folks like Rush 'Dominican Republic Viagra' Limbaugh and Alex 'Crisis Actors' Jones.

The guys who complains the most about newspapers closing and presses being shut down is the same guy who runs a "news" blog and provides no print publication. hmmmmm
