Joplin Schools reports 18 students, 43 employees isolated, 171 students quarantined

(From Joplin Schools)

COVID-19 Update

On November 20, Joplin Schools had 25 student isolations and 208 student quarantines. We also had 28 isolated employees and 43 quarantined employees.

As of today, we have 18 student isolations and 171 student quarantines. Additionally, we have 43 isolated employees and 40 quarantined employees. Our combined staff and student isolations remain below one percent of our district population.

As has been the case each week, these are not concentrated on any particular campus.

Since our last update, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued new guidance for quarantine periods. Joplin Schools, in partnership with our local health department, is now implementing the new guidelines that reduce the quarantine time period from 14 to 10 days and seven days if a negative COVID test is performed and verified on days five, six or seven.

We continue to stress the importance of not only managing hygiene and social distancing at school, but also while we are away from school. We are still comparing well to our neighboring districts due in large part to the strict handling of protocols and consistency among our students and staff throughout the school day. I continue to applaud everyone's efforts to keep us safe, learning and in school.
