Kevin Ernesto Lazo Ayala (DOB 1998) is being held in the Jasper County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Ayala is the second man to be charged in connection with sexual assaults on a 15-year-old Carthage girl who had been reported to be a runaway.

The case against Ayala is detailed in the probable cause statement:
On October 21, 2025, Carthage Police Officers received a report regarding a missing/runaway juvenile.During the subsequent investigation, a forensic interview was conducted with the female juvenile victim. The victim disclosed that during the summer of 2025( June through August), while she was 15 years old, she spent time with Kevin Lazo-Ayala at his residence in Jasper County. While there, she consumed alcohol and marijuana with him, which he provided to her on a regular basis.
The victim stated that Kevin Lazo-Ayala became aware of her age after viewing a previous missing person flyer and discussing it with her on the first day they met.
The victim stated that she engaged in sexual intercourse with Lazo-Ayala approximately four to five times during the summer months. She reported that during each of these encounters, she was highly intoxicated due to the alcohol and marijuana provided, rendering her incapable of giving consent to sexual activity. The victim further stated that she ultimately ceased contact with Lazo-Ayala because she did not like the incapacitated state he kept her in during sexual encounters.
During a subsequent interview, Lazo-Ayala admitted to knowing the victim and acknowledged being alone with her.
He was adamant, however, that no sexual or inappropriate activity occurred. When confronted with evidence obtained from the victim’s phone, Lazo-Ayala stated, “I don’t know what to tell you; that is all I am going to say.”
