Newton County Sheriff reveals autopsy results in weekend shooting death

(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)

On November 18, 2025, an autopsy was conducted on Ernest Darby. A bullet was located and retrieved from the deceased.

The bullet will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for further testing to determine caliber and type of round. There were no powder burns or stippling located around the gunshot wound which would indicate that the round was fired from some distance away from the victim.
