Joplin man charged after allegedly threatening girlfriend, great-grandmother with gun

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Joplin man with kidnapping and armed criminal action after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend and great-grandmother with a gun.

Jonathan Scott Spencer (DOB 2006) is being held without bond in the Jasper County Detention Center. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday before Judge Nicole Carlton in Jasper County Circuit Court.

From the probable cause statement:

Victim 1 told me that Jonathan S. Spencer, her boyfriend, grabbed her arms with his hands in an attempt to take her phone from her. Victim 1 had visible red marks on her left forearm which she said resulted from this incident.

{She} told me that Jonathan prevented her from leaving the residence for approximately 45 minutes by closing and locking their bedroom door while he and Victim 1 were in the bedroom and by standing in front of the door blocking her from opening the door.

Victim 1 said that during this time Jonathan on a few occasions would tell her she could leave, but that when she would start toward the door, Jonathan would say he changed his mind and blocked her from going through the door.

Victim 1 stated that Jonathan had in his possession a black in color Smith & Wesson 40 caliber handgun. {She} said that Jonathan held this gun to the right side of her head using his left hand and that while doing this Jonathan was holding her down on the floor of their bedroom and made {her} put {her} hand on the gun stating that he would shoot himself and her fingerprints would be on the gun.

I asked Victim 1 if she wanted to press charges and she said, "Yes, I was in fear for my life. I really thought he was going to pull the trigger."

Victim 1 also told me that she saw Jonathan cock this gun and point it at this great-grandmother during this incident.

Victim 2 told me that she is Jonathan's great-grandmother and also lives at this address. Victim 2 said that Jonathan pushed her during this incident. {She} said that Jonathan did have a gun during this incident, ut that "I couldn't swear if he did or did not" point the gun at her. Victim 2 told me she took the gun after Jonathan put it on the floor and that she put it on the ground outside of the residence.

Victim 3 told me that he is Jonathan's grandfather and lives at this residence. {He} said that he saw Jonathan push Victim 2. {He} stated that during this incident Jonathan pushed him. {He} said that Jonathan had a gun, put a clip I it and said that he was going to shoot himself in the head if Victim 1 left.

Victim 3 told me that Jonathan had the bedroom door shut while Victim 1 was inside of it and was standing in front of the door preventing {her} from opening the door or leaving.
