Pineville man awaiting charges on Newton County felonies, charged with McDonald County crimes

(From the McDonald County Sheriff's Office)

Tuesday, November 11, 2025, McDonald County Deputy Travis Sheppard arrived at a residence on Edsell Road regarding the theft of a Razor UTV.

Upon arriving, it was learned that a subject had broken into a garage, attempted to steal power tools. When discovered by the home owner, he began to steal the UTV. The homeowner confronted the suspect and the suspect pulled a handgun while threatening the homeowner.

During the confrontation, the homeowner had contacted a family member to respond to the scene. The suspect was able to get away with the UTV. While the suspect fled in the UTV, the family member observed the UTV and stopped it by blocking it in. The UTV then struck his vehicle. The suspect continuously asked the family member to let him go, then he suddenly pulled the same firearm and pointed it at the family member threatening to shoot him.

Deputy Sheppard arrived and he was provided a direction of travel along with a description. Deputy Sheppard requested the assistance of additional deputies along with Anderson Police Departments K-9 Maverick.

Anderson Officer Varner and Maverick arrived and began a track of the suspect into the woods. K-9 Maverick tracked the individual until a call was received by an alert neighbor who spotted the suspect hiding in tall grass in a field. A search of the field was conducted by Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol members while a perimeter was held by other officers. During the search, the suspect abruptly stood up in front of Sheriff Evenson and was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Nicholas Hobbie (DOB 2001, Pineville).

The investigation revealed that Hobbie had broken into a garage, entered vehicles and stole the UTV while armed with a pistol. Hobbie did not have the firearm with him when taken into custody so a search of the pasture was conducted utilizing another K9. K-9 Falco conducted an article search and was able to recover the gun along with loaded magazines.

Hobbie was transported to the McDonald County jail where he has been charged by the McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney with Burglary 2nd degree, 2 counts of Assault 1st degree, 2 counts of Armed Criminal Action, Stealing a motor vehicle, Property Damage and Resisting Arrest. His bond has been set at NO BOND.

The McDonald County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the public for getting involved, Anderson Police and K-9 Maverick, Missouri State Highway Patrol, K-9 Falco and the McDonald County 911 Center for providing information quickly.

(Note: At the time the McDonald County Sheriff's Office arrested Hobbie, he was free on bond while awaiting trial on burglary, assault and armed criminal action charges in Newton County. Newton County Prosecuting Attorney filed motion to revoke Hobbie's bond Thursday.)
