In a Joplin Globe update that was posted online about an hour ago, R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff says the construction of the new Joplin High School is on target to be ready for its August opening and says work is continuing at a "fast and furious" pace.
The director of the buildings project, Mike Johnson, hedges a bit, though, saying, "We're not making any promises, but we're working like crazy to make it happen."
A few paragraphs later, Johnson, despite his earlier promise not to make a promise, makes a promise saying the high school "will be finished enough to hold school."
Whether he was talking about Joplin High School, Thomas Jefferson, College Heights, or McAuley is not clear.

I hope they plan to elaborate on what "enough to hold school" means. Running water? Electricity? Sack lunches?
Will the construction workers still on-site have background checks, or will they be thrown in with the kids? How will you keep them apart--barricades with 6.5 miles of "mission accomplished" ribbon?
This little news blurb tells the public very little, actually. Those who are familiar with construction, however, tell me that "fast and furious" means shoddy work at a very steep price. Will cabinets fall off the wall like at East? Will the ceilings collapse in the first rain or snow like at Irving and at Soaring Heights? Will there be mold growing in the teachers' workroom like at Irving? Please, tell us, won't you? For some reason, I don't trust Huff's assessment of the situation.
Fast and furious = triple pay for the labor. Should have kept the mall school another semester.

Fast work means many costly repairs in the future.
...and everybody gets a hard hat in their "back to school" goodie bag! Of course, the cost of the hard hat will be deducted from everyone's first paycheck.

"Fast and furious". Is it possible Superintendent has been inspired by a bunch of tatted up social misfits endangering the public with their fart pipe equipped ricers?
