Talent increases lead, Thomas passes Montee

The latest results from the Missouri Secretary of State's office show Sen. Jim Talent increasing his lead over State Auditor Claire McCaskill though still less than 20 percent of the results are in.
Talent has 209,582 votes, 53.1 percent, to 169,430 votes, 43.4 percent, for Ms. McCaskill.

Platte County Auditor Sandra Thomas has taken a slim lead over Susan Montee in the state auditor race with 184,495 votes, 48.3 percent, to 182,949, 47.9 percent.

With half of the votes counted in the 30th Senatorial District, Aunt Norma Champion is leading with 54.8 percent of the vote, 23,763 votes, to 45.2 percent, 19,561 for former Rep. Doug Harpool, the Democratic candidate.

With 13 of 88 precincts reporting, Sen. Gary Nodler holds a comfortable lead in the 32nd Senatorial District with 2,133 votes to 1,005 for Independent candidate Kim Wright.

126th District Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, is cruising to a win over Rich Meyer of Buffalo, with 72.3 percent of the vote, 5,852 votes, to 27.7 percent, 2,746 votes, for Meyer. Twenty-nine of 41 precincts are reporting.

In the 138th District State Representative race, incumbent Sara Lampe, D-Springfield, appears on the way to holding back Springfield businessman Steve Helms. With seven of 13 precincts reporting, Ms. Lampe has 5,925 votres, 59.7 percent, to 3,995, 40.3 percent for Helms.

Look for Talent's lead to shrink in the next hour.

McCaskill is still awaiting results from Boone, Cass, Jackson (now at 17 percent) and St. Louis (now at 30 percent).

Talent already has the votes from Greene and is waiting on most of southwest Missouri. Jasper County votes should be ready by January.
