Today, the Missouri Department of Revenue announced it would be granting an extension for the renewal of driver’s licenses and license plates for those affected by recent flooding.
“The severe flooding across much of the state has impacted many lives and created challenges that prevented citizens from being able to make it into a license office,” Director of Revenue Joel Walters said. “We’re just giving people a little more time to get their lives in order.”
In addition to extending deadlines for driver’s licenses and license plates, Walters, acting under the authority granted to him by Governor Greitens Executive Order 17-16, has also granted an extension for the renewal of non-driver licenses, certificates of vehicle ownership, vehicle registration receipts, and license plate tabs issued by the Director of Revenue.
A resident of one of the affected counties whose driver’s license, non-driver license, certificate of vehicle ownership, vehicle registration receipt, or license plate tabs expire between April 29 and May 26, now has until May 31, 2017 to renew without penalty.
For those affected, Walters also directed license offices to issue replacement licenses, titles, and plates that were lost or damaged due to flooding without charge as long as the citizen is otherwise eligible for the replacements. License offices must waive all state fees and charges otherwise due for such duplicate or replacement. Additionally, penalties normally assessed for late vehicle registration transactions and title penalty fees will be waived for those affected by the recent floods until May 31. Local office processing fees may still apply.
“These floods were difficult on everyone,” Walters said. “We, as Missourians always do, pulled together to help each other out as best we can. The Department of Revenue is trying to do its part.”
