Number of COVID-19 patients in Joplin hospitals reaches all-time high 74

One day after Joplin Health Department Director Ryan Talken described the COVID-19 units at Freeman and Mercy hospitals as "full, but manageable," with 69 patients, the total has jumped to a record high 74.

Out of that number, 23 are Joplin residents, down from 24 the previous day.

Only one new case was confirmed in Joplin during the past 24 hours, putting the total at 1,650.

The number of active cases dropped from 175 to 147, while the number of people under active quarantine decreased from 330 to 277.

Joplin has recorded 26 deaths due to COVID-19.

THIS VIRUS ISN'T ABOUT POLITICS. IT’S NOT ABOUT OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. ITS ABOUT LIFE AND DEATH.

How long is it going to be before our local hospitals don’t have any more beds? I’m not talking about just Covid beds, they’ll probably open more Covid units. Those beds for Covid cases take away beds for strokes, heart attacks, accidents, etc. Then what? What if there aren’t any hospitals In the area to be transferred to because they’re full too?

What happens when so many health care workers are out sick and there isn’t enough to provide care?

What happens when someone close to you dies from Covid? When the death count includes your family member/members? What happens to your family if you die? All because people didn’t want to wear a mask.

I am still practicing social distancing and wearing a mask anywhere I go. I also continue to limit people at my home and only go to the store or dr appts when necessary. If everyone would be as cautious, the virus might die out sooner. Stay safe people.
