Carthage man arrested on assault charges following Lawrence County manhunt

The Aurora-Marionville Police Department arrested a Carthage man on assault charges following a manhunt Monday, according to documents filed today in Lawrence County Circuit Court.

Cesar Murillo-Torres (DOB 2000) is being  held without bond after being charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault.

Police arrived at a residence in response to a 9-1-1 hangup and learned of an alleged assault, according to the probable cause statement.

V1, a woman who had been having a romantic relationship with Murillo-Torres, was involved in an argument with him when she went into her room, the statement said.

A short time later, Cesar requested V1 to let him in the room so he could get his property and leave. When she opened the door, Cesar grabbed her by the throat.

After Cesar took his hands off her throat, V1 attempted to walk around Cesar, who was still in the hallway. As she passed, Cesar kicked her left leg.

V2 heard the assault and proceeded to exit his bedroom to investigate. While attempting to stop the assault, V2 was bitten by Cesar.

Cesar fled the residence before I arrived. He was located during a manhunt several hours after the incident.
