Fund established to defray former Globe sportswriter's medical costs

A benefit fund to defray medical costs for former Joplin Globe sportswriter Christian Orr has been established at Sunflower Bank locations in Kansas and Colorado, according to an article in the Nov. 30 Lawrence Journal-World.
Orr was injured Nov. 18 when he hit an overpass while standing atop a Cat Tracker bus headed for the Kansas-Kansas State football game.
At the time of that article, Orr had not regained consciousness and had undergone brain surgery to reduce the swelling.

According to newspaper accounts, another passenger who was standing atop the bus was killed. The bus driver, Brent Simonson, was not licensed to drive a bus and had a long string of DUI convictions, according to an article in the Nov. 29 Journal-World.
