Mark Alford: Real people are paying the price for Schumer's Spooky Shutdown

(From Fourth District Congressman Mark Alfo

Halloween is usually about harmless scares, but this year, Americans are facing a haunting reality: one full month of the Spooky Schumer Shutdown.

That’s right. 31 days of Senate Democrats blocking government funding.

Hardworking Americans aren’t even asking for treats—just the basic duty of putting America first. The sad reality is that Democrats would rather perform tricks.

House Republicans have done our job. We passed clean bills. We funded the government responsibly.

But instead of coming to the table with the rest of the country, Chuck Schumer and his party have chosen to keep the lights off and the doors closed, all to score political points.

Meanwhile, real people are paying the price. Families across Missouri are missing paychecks. Military families are worried about their next housing allowance. Head Start programs that serve our most vulnerable children are cutting back. SNAP benefits, the safety net for struggling families, are running out. These are not Washington talking points; they’re real consequences for real Americans.

While Washington Democrats stall, we’re staying focused on the people who actually make this country run. Our team has spent this shutdown doing what Congress is elected to do: working for you. In the past month, we’ve met with farmers, teachers, veterans, small business owners, and rural hospitals.

This isn’t about politics, it’s about priorities. And Senate Democrats’ priorities are out of whack. Instead of negotiating in good faith, they’ve chosen scare tactics and partisan games.

That might fly in D.C., but back home in Missouri, we know better. So as Halloween arrives, remember this: the real nightmare isn’t in the scary Halloween movie. It’s on Constitution Avenue, where each Senate Democrat sits in their office while you suffer.

House Republicans are ready to reopen the government, return to regular order, and rein in reckless spending.

It’s time for Senator Schumer to stop haunting hardworking families with this spooky shutdown — because the American people deserve more than tricks. They deserve real leadership.

When will the Average American see and understand the Truth and Facts about the Government shutdowns and the Fraud that occurs in these Governmental Programs?

CBS News Reports -
The 2025 U.S government shutdown, by the numbers
By Joe Walsh, Kaia Hubbard
Updated on: October 31, 2025 / 11:59 AM EDT / CBS News
13: Number of times the Senate has held failed votes to end the shutdown - These are your Liberal Democrats - Failing time and time again to Re-open the Government - STOP BLAMING THE REPUBLICANS!!!

As with any Government Program, SNAP, EBT, Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, Etc., Etc., Etc., - there is a high number of Fraudulent Users.

With 42-Million Recipients - there is a lot of Fraud. While these Programs are Noble in Cause, Millions of Recipients have learned how to use the system even as a multi-generational way of life. Living on the Governmental Roles for decades while hard-working taxpayers pay their bills and for their lifestyle, for individuals - who will not work, the Democrats depend on these individuals for a continuous supply of voters - we are finally examining who is getting these funds and why - they have been allowed a monthly stipend with the ability to buy anything they want - not the necessities, nor the proper food choices, but foods classified with tons of sugar - snacks, pop, candies, etc., - even some selling their Food Benefits for Cash to buy Cigarettes, Beer, Drugs - if you look at other countries - the similar majority of the recipients are thin - while the majority of the recipients in America are overweight to the extent of extreme obesity - Why - this must Stop -

We have become a Country of just giving out Money without any Accountability or Oversight - Not requiring participants to Work, Apply for Jobs just letting them maintain a life of Living off the Government (Taxpayers) - this must Stop - these Programs were meant to be for Temporary Assistance - to get people back on the feet, not to provide their Lifetime of Existence On - while they just sit at home collecting a monthly amount. Would you give a person in your Family or a Friend money out of your Paycheck every month - if they would not go out and work or find a job - the majority of Americans would find this ridiculous and would cut this out - yet this is what we do in America - THIS HAS TO STOP - ACCOUNTABILITY AND OVERSIGHT - FOR THESE PROGRAMS AND THE PEOPLE THAT ARE ON THEM... Every one of these People are out complaining, but are they out looking for a Job - No, Why Not???

I get so tired of Republicans blaming Democrats! Do the right thing, NEGOTIATE!! I am one of the millions that will lose healthcare. I currently pay $639 monthly for my coverage, my husband, who is retired, has taken a part time job so that we can afford to do anything else because the cost of my insurance has completely drained our budget to live monthly. Stop the blame game and get off you butt and do something good for the whole country, not just part of it!!

You don’t negotiate with terrorist/dems that want to hold our country hostage.

Trump to UAE president: "We have a term 'groceries.' It's an old term but it means basically what you're buying, food, it's a pretty accurate term but it's an old fashioned sound but groceries are down."

Truth is, the Republicans have no interest in helping anyone but themselves.

You're concerned about a few scammed but not the millions of children who need food? Typical right wing metrics. Zero humanity.

I am very grateful that the shutdown didn't prevent the Lincoln bathroom renovations.

Why should any Democratic politician trust any Trump or Republican promises or 'deal' at this point.

These Trump people believe that Trump and his minions can simply not spend money Congress has lawfully appropriated.

Ask yourself what kind of a fool would make a deal with a clown that bankrupted three casinos, a college and a crappy steaks in the mail scheme?

Another simply reprehensible statement of republican policy and state of a mental disturbance by the PPPP!

Did you trust Biden? He didn’t even know his own name. We have a divided America from extremist on both sides.

6:18PM - What you should have learned about Epstein - Is that the NUMBER-1 Democrat - Bill Clinton was on his Plane and his Island the most. Next to the Hollywood Elitist, which are the majority Democratic, who were involved with Epstein and with Diddy - only shows the connections that Hollywood has to depravity. So maybe you need to expand your list of Deplorables, because the majority of them you see on TV, in Music, and Movies were part of the Epstein and Diddy Cover-Ups.

Seems like a bit of a tell, huh?

Trump filed lawsuits over jokes, tweets, and news articles, but not once over any of the countless allegations of child rape. I feel like more people should mention that.

Hollywood is full of what? Democrats is the answer. What is the other thing Hollywood is full of? Sexual abuse is the answer.

According to data, the top item purchased by households participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which uses an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card is - soft drinks (sugar sweetened beverages). The current administration is trying to remove sugars and sweets from the SNAP Program so that these individuals choose healthy foods for their children, we have to have accountability and responsibility - not throw money at these problems, because that never works. Also, they have overcome the issues of buying pop and sugar items, by selling their EBT Cards for money and then turning around and buying junk foods, pop, cigarettes and beer not healthy food and milk/formula for their children. A good majority of these individuals are foreign born and are able-bodied, but will not get off their lazy azzes to find a job - WHY? Next time you see these individuals at a grocery store look closely do these people look like they are starving - have you seen people who are really starving - these SNAP recipients do not look like any people I have ever seen that are starving - life is about accountability and responsibility - hardworking taxpayers - do not mind helping out, but we cannot support these multi-generational individuals who want to live off the government - it has to STOP!!!
