Dankelson elected Division 2 Judge, Flanigan wins county commission race

Dean Dankelson, who has been Jasper County prosecuting attorney since 1998, will take on a new job in January.

With no opposition in the general election, Dankelson is virtually assured of becoming Division 2 judge after defeating Stephen Carlton 7,102 to 6,853.

In the five-way race for Eastern District county commissioner, Rep. Tom Flanigan of Carthage easily won with 4,361 votes to 1,099 for Dale Dintaman, 1,039 for Gayle Cline, 750 for Jim Lessy, and 700 for Garry Graves.

The City of Joplin will continue to collect sales tax for vehicles purchased outside of the state. The vote was 4,134 no and 2,169 yes. (The ballot question asked if the practice should be discontinued.)

Law enforcement is celebrating tonight. No more Dankelson as prosecutor.
Wonder who the Glades firm and other defense attorneys have lined up to replace him. I am sure it has all been pre-arranged. Jasper County is a joke.

How funny...now he HAS to show up in court!

Was it proper for Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce President Gary Stubblefield to endorse Dankelson on his Facebook page? I know that Dankelson lives in Carl Junction, but shouldn't city officials be neutral publicly?

Good luck, Dean Dankelson! You've got my vote tomorrow!

Gary Stubblefield isn't a city official.

If you go to the City of Carl Junction's official web page at http://carljunction.org/, there is a pull-down menu, About CJ. Under that pull-down menu, the Chamber of Commerce is listed. So yes, Gary Stubblefield is considered a city official.

Under that same menu you'll also find a link to their health care options. So I'm assuming that Freeman clinic employees are also city officials?

6:43. How did a listing for "Chamber of Commerce" turn into a City official. On the same tab, "licensed businesses" are listed. Does this make them "City Officials"?
Gary Stubblefield is no more a city official than you are. He's a "City Ambassador", not an official.
Did his endorsement cause you harm? Did it infringe on your rights in any way? Get over it.

Is Rob O'Brian, president of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, a city official? Of course he is! Same case with Stubblefield and Carl Junction.

I'm sorry 11:29, you're mistaken. A good test ( I would have used "litmus test", but I'm sure you wouldn't get the reference) is if Rob or Gary ARE officials, their emails would be subject to the open records laws. They are not.
They are lobbyist. The Chamber is a lobbying organization.

This speaks volumes to the education of the readers/posters of this board. Anyone who considers Stubblefield any kind of city official lacks common sense. He is no more a city official than the algae at your local sewer treatment plant. If anything, Stubblefield is an overexposed blow hard. Every time you turn on the TV, listen to the radio or forbid, peek at social media, there he is. The idea that CJ even has a chamber of commerce is a mere joke; really, what does a one-person chamber do for a community of 7,400? I've actually spoke to several businesses in CJ who question his purpose. If you defend him by saying the standard chamber line "they do economic development work" please, save it. Then list how many jobs he has created during his entire tenure? Don't list Harp's and Walmart Neighborhood Market either, those are both in Airport Drive, not CJ.
CJ is a bedroom community, that's all it is and all it will ever be. I guess if it wasn't for the city wide garage sale and bluegrass in the park, his purpose would be minimal at best.

Gary does a great job for CJ but he is not a city official! He brings training sessions to Chamber members as well as promoting businesses inside and outside of CJ. I don't know if he is paid but if you divide the hours alone on TV, Radio, Social Media, and events, he might make $1.25 an hour, if he is! Go look in the mirror to find out why you are so bitter!

Chamber of Commerce is a private organization if businesses, not the government.
