Graves: Trump's actions in Syria put madmen around the world on notice

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

Syrian President Bashar Assad conducted another senseless chemical attack earlier this month in an attempt to subdue rebel forces. The attack didn’t just affect those opposing him; it also killed dozens and injured hundreds of innocent Syrian civilians including women and children. This is just the latest horrific act he has committed.

Assad’s brutal actions toward innocent civilians are inexcusable and must not be tolerated by any nation.

President Trump responded last Friday night by authorizing missile attacks on known Syrian chemical weapons facilities. Acting with the help of our allies in France and Britain, these attacks slowed down Syria’s chemical weapons program. I believe our swift response sends a crystal clear message that the United States will not stand for such atrocities.

We must continue to hold the Assad regime accountable. It should go without saying that you can't gas innocent men, women, children, and babies and expect to get away with it.

President Trump took decisive, necessary action and I will support any effort that holds Assad accountable.

Holding a ruthless regime accountable is just one of the many things we ask our military to do. This is why it is highly critical that they have the resources they need. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am committed to making sure that our military is well-funded and well-prepared for whatever task we give them.

For the last several years, our military has suffered from a lack of resources that was, frankly, unacceptable. I’m proud to say that is no longer the case and we have finally given our Armed Forces the funding they need to get the job done.

When our troops are called upon to defend our country and ensure that innocent civilians are protected, they can now do so knowing that they will have the manpower and resources to do the job we call on them to do.

Bold actions carried out by a strong United States military puts madmen around the world on notice. We’ve made it clear that the United States is always prepared and willing to defend our country as well as the lives of those subjected to unthinkable atrocities.

"Slowed down " is the key word. Trump signaled the attack, allowing for time to move things and to assure the Russians get out of the way. This does nothing. Trump himself said Obama should not bomb them. Do you think people forget this stuff? The only way to stop Syria is send in troops, and no one is that stupid. I think.

Now, who is going to put our "madman" on notice that his actions or inactions speak loudly that our congress is not addressing the real issue of our nation. Leadership comes with a heavy burden and when you have 26 trips to a golf resort at 3.5 mil per and people are hungry it does not bode well for our leadership to remain silent. Shame on him and shame on them.

NO!
By definition, Madmen aren't cowed.
NO!
We do not need to police the world. There is a United Nations for that.
NO!
We do not need to spend MORE on our military at the expense of our infrastructure.
NO!
The President does not have the power to make war. Congress does.

But, but, but, Trump is a self described military genius. This attack actually knocked down a building rather than putting a small hole in a runway like his last attack did. Of course that is a major accomplishment even though it cost us a hundred million dollars instead of fifty nine million dollars.

OK Graves, why don't you just concentrate on your ignorant plan of a "mileage tax" or add more gasoline tax to make us pay for your rich owners tax breaks. President Spanky Bonespurs signaled Assad that we were pulling out of Syria very soon. Then he telegraphs that there will be an attack. The same MORON that said Obama shouldn't bomb Syria. The same MORON that killed the new sanctions against Russia. Is there a specified number of chemical attacks that have to happen before missiles are sent in? Assad has been gassing people since the first salvo of missiles was sent in. This just happened to coincide with the latest Trump trouble here at home. Nice distraction huh? Your so called president and his unethical cabinet has no plan for how to handle Syria. Stop embarrassing yourself by regurgitating the same old rhetoric your party keeps feeding you. Try to figure out where you are going to get the money to fund the military since you gutted taxes for your rich owners. Try to figure out where you are going to get the money for our infrastructure needs. By the way, keep your slimy mitts off of our Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. We pay into those, so YES, we are entitled to our money.
