Online court records had described the hearing as a plea hearing, but instead it became a pre-trial conference with a Chuukese interpreter helping Kiris understand the proceedings.
Kiris allegedly raped and sodomized the Joplin girl multiple times between June and August of 2017. The Joplin Police Department investigated the case.
The trial is expected to last three days. Another pre-trial conference will be held 1 p.m. February 25.
Kiris is being held in Jasper County Jail on $200,000 bond.
