Hit-and-run driver who killed Galena pedestrians sentenced to seven years on manslaughter, drug charges

A Cherokee County judge sentenced Shelby Colon, 25, Galena, to seven years in prison Monday on involuntary manslaughter and drug charges connected to the July 6, 2017 hit-and-run deaths of Charles W. Burkybile, 66, and Glen A. Roosa, 86, of Galena.

The deaths occurred at 7:05 a.m. when Colon, driving a silver 2001 Mitsubishi, struck the two men who were walking north at 18th and Main.

Burkybile was pronounced dead at the scene, Roosa was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin where he died from his injuries.



Joplin police officers arrested Colon October 31, 2017 at 1618 Connor after receiving a tip she had been seen there. Officers staked out the location and was arrested her when she arrived.

More like 2 years then 5 years unsupervised probation. Theses judges are nuts. A revolving door is all it is.
Those poor fellas. I hope the families and friends keep on keeping on.
