Joplin City Council expected to approve $7.4 million contract to rebuild airport taxiway

The Joplin City Council during its Tuesday 6 p.m. meeting is expected to approve a $7.434,000.85 contract with Capital Paving & Construction to rebuild Taxiway D at the Joplin Regional Airport.

Documentation provided to the City Council indicates the repairs were deemed necessary due to deterioration of the pavement structure of the taxiway due to heavier commercial aircraft using it.

Capital submitted the low bid, according to the documentation.

The construction is made possible through a Federal Aviation Administration grant that will provide $7,062,300.81. The city's share will be $371,700.04.

The council bill contains an emergency clause, meaning it will take effect immediately if it passes.

What!!! We have roads that are shot and we have how many airports around a no nothing town of Joplin, major airports, and they are giving 7 million to them. Not enough people fly out of Joplin to warrant this and they even have to subsidize the airlines to fly into Joplin. Again, politicians buying votes for a town that missed the beat to Springfield and NW Arkansas. On top of all that the major airports are calling for updated equipment to make flying safer and the next thing will be to update and enlarge the worthless unit in Neosho for a few corporate jets. The spending needs to have better oversight to address issues like water and wastewater improvement, schools, environmental protection and CAFO's. What a mess.

There will be alot of people "flying out of Joplin" and not returning, the the City Manager/City Council don't make additional wages/funds available immediately and hire more detectives and law enforcement.
The violent crime has skyrocketed in the last few years because of their inept management.
They can fund defunct costly ballparks and unnecessary art culture centers, and now the airport, but won't release or make immediate funds available to protect citizens.
The families of all the people who have gone missing or been victims in the last two years should revolt.
Preposterous.

You have got to be kidding! You must be a liberal or a cop hater or most likely, both.

Thank you to all our law enforcement officers.
