The cost of swimming in Joplin municipal pools will go up this year for the first time in six years,
During its Monday meeting, the Joplin City Council voted to increase fees by the following amounts:
Ewert Park- Children $2.50 to $3; Adults $3.50 to $4
Cunningham- Children $3 to $4; Adults $4 to $5
Schifferdecker- Children $4 to $5; Adults $5 to $6
The changes will go into effect April 1.
According to city officials, the increases were necessary because the pools have been losing money, including $245,000 in 2017
