Former Gov. Jay Nixon cut the ribbon Thursday for the building that was named in his honor at Missouri Southern State University.
"It's a tremendous honor to have this building named after me," Nixon said.
"This is a welcoming community," Nixon said. As governor, Nixon spent a considerable amount of time in Joplin, especially in the days and months following the May 22, 2011 tornado, but was also here on a number of other occasions.
"I always appreciated every chance I had time to spend here."

Can't believe the college would name a building after such a coward. Gutless about Ferguson
He hid when action was needed.
Nixon was the best Governor this state ever had. One dumbass cop took him down over an incident in which he did everything right to stop the violence.
Personification of cowardice.
