Bond has been set at $50,000 for a Joplin man who faces felony charges after leading police on a nighttime chase down city streets, driving with his lights off and the going the wrong way on a one-way street for nine blocks.
Michael Allen Davis, 39, was charged with resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The probable cause statement indicates JPD Officer Adam New stopped Davis at 9:40 p.m. August 30 at the intersection of West Junge Boulevard and S. Jackson Avenue for a lighting violation. After handing New his driver's license, Davis drove away with no lights on, driving down residential streets at speeds estimated at 50 to 60 miles per hour, including driving the wrong way on a one-way street for nine blocks.
Davis was a familiar face for the Joplin Police Department, which had arrested him on a marijuana trafficking charge February 20, which is pending in Jasper County Circuit Court. Online court records show Davis also faces a felony stealing charge following an arrest by the Webb City Police Department.
