Walter Blaine Blount, 24, Tulsa, is charged with stealing a motor vehicle and resisting arrest by fleeing, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of careless and imprudent driving, property damage second degree, driving while revoked and fraudulent use of a credit device.
Blount escaped from Moore Police September 26 after somehow getting out of handcuffs while he was in a police car, already faced four counts of burglary, possession of a weapon by felon and escape in Cleveland County, Oklahoma District Court.
The escapee's alleged crime spree included the theft of a purse from Ellie Wright, Neosho, according to the probable cause statement. A credit device from the purse was used to buy $179 worth of groceries. Wright's credit cards were used at three locations. While watching video of the man using the stolen credit cards, investigators discovered it was Blount whom they were pursuing.
When Neosho police officers caught up to Blount, he was driving a blue extended cab Dodge Dakota pickup that had been reported stolen off the Louisiana Tech campus in Ruston, Louisiana, according to the probable cause statement.
Blount tried to get away from the police, driving at high rates of speed on the streets of Neosho, weaving through traffic and running motorists off the road, the report said and ran over a private property road barrier, causing more than $500 in damage.
"His actions placed several pedestrians in fear of harm," according to the statement.
Bond for Blount was set at $100,000.
