Anonymous reader: Joplin teachers left because they are afraid of technology

Contrary to what you heard, it was not the tornado or spouses with new jobs that caused more than 200 teachers to leave the Joplin School District- it was just old teachers who were afraid of changing their ways of teaching to embrace all of the wonderful technology that has been bought, at great expense.

Silly me. I should have figured it out.

An anonymous reader left this comment a few moments ago on my post giving my reasons why we need to elect a brand new board of education:

Why would I disprove any of your statements? They are true.

I just think if anything is worth investing money into it is our public education. I think a lot of teachers left because as technology creeps into the teaching profession (just as it has almost every other aspect of our world) it does change how a teacher does their job.

It is a huge burden for someone to basically have to learn how to do everything a new way. The older the teacher the harder the adjustment will be. But there is no way around it.

Technology is here to stay and it sucks for those teachers who have done their job the same way for years and then be forced to abandon everything they know and do everything differently. Investing in our schools is an investment in our town which will lead to a better, stronger and competitive Joplin!

It appears the school board election has already started.

Another load of crap from the indoctrinated and groomed Huff faction. The teachers aren't scared of technology. That's so easy to say though. They're tired of not having two nickels to run together, and of being threatened by upper admin and their spies. Throw in disrespect from kids who'd rather play on the computers and working in Joplin is a wash. I'm much happier now. And I make a lot more money without the hassles. If you want to invest in education maybe you better start with the teachers.

The future of education is writ in stone. Just give a kid a computer and lock him in a room. When he is eighteen, let him our and hand him a diploma. What do we need teachers for.

8:26 you are denigrating older teachers....apparently you are a young know-it-all. We "older" teachers aren't afraid of technology & welcome anything new in education that will make our job more fun. But, your thinking is wrong ...matches the ad bldg mind set...anything or anyone over 50 should be gotten rid of....
