The Board of Education unanimously approved Chris Mitchell as South Middle School’s new principal at Tuesday's night’s board meeting. Mitchell will report to South on August 1, 2017.
Mitchell began his education career in 1995, teaching high school biology and chemistry in Webb City. He has been a Joplin Eagle since 2013, serving as Assistant Principal at North Middle School from 2013-15 and Principal at Jefferson Elementary since August, 2015.
Mitchell received his bachelor’s degree from MSSU in 1995, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from SW Missouri State in 2001, and a master’s degree in administration from Missouri State in 2012.
Mitchell replaces Steven Gilbreath, who was promoted to an assistant superintendent position. Barbara Cox is serving as interim principal.

If you look at the headshots of R8 employees, they all have the unnaturally glowing faces. Either someone went heavy on the Photoshop, or we're in the presence of the divine.
Chris Mitchell is a quality man. South is very fortunate!
Word is turners "boy" Ron Mitchell tried to get back into education by applying. The board made the right decision.
