Carthage man pleads not guilty to kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child

A Carthage man who allegedly took a 15-year-old Texas girl from her home and brought her to Missouri pleaded not guilty to felony kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child charges during a video arraignment Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court.

The next hearing for Charles Ward Kuentzel, Jr., 21, is scheduled for 9 a.m. September 27 before Judge Joseph Hensley.

The Carthage Police Department arrested Kuentzel at his home August 31 on a felony warrant from Wheeler County, Texas, for unlawful restraint. The girl had been missing since July 24.

Kuentzel's bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety and a $10,000 cash only bond.

Any update on the trial that was set for Sept. 27th?

That hearing has been rescheduled four times and is now set for November 22.

According to Case Net, there was a hearing scheduled for May 16th 2018, but nothing has been entered for that. There is also an extradition granted, but it is not clear when that is to happen. Anything further?
