Fifth judge recuses from Jalen Vaden murder trial

The Jalen Vaden murder case will soon have a sixth judge.

The fifth judge, and the last Jasper County trial judge eligible to handle the case, Stephen Carlton, recused today, citing a "conflict case," according to online Jasper County Circuit Court records.

The fourth judge, John Nicholas, recused Thursday, as did judges David Mouton and Gayle Crane earlier.

Vaden's attorney, Tracey Martin's motion to removed the first judge assigned to the case after Vaden was bound over for trial, Dean Dankelson, was overruled by Dankelson, forcing Martin to use her one automatic change of judge request.

Carlton's decision sends the case back to the presiding judge for assignment. With no Jasper County judges left, the case will be sent to the Missouri Supreme Court, which will assign an out-of-county judge.

The original trial date of April 2019 has been stricken.

Vaden, 23, Carl Junction, is charged with second degree murder and felony child abuse in connection with the December 1, 2017 death of three-year-old Jayda Kyle.

The child died at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City three days after she was hospitalized due to abuse that took place at her home at 405 Meadow Lake, Carl Junction. Vaden was the live-in boyfriend of Jayda Kyle's mother, Devyn Kyle.

This is such a heartbreaking case. I don't feel like it was investigation was handled right because of who the child's Grandfather is, her Mother's father.
Sadly I would've seen this case getting thrown out altogether except for his confession early on in the investigation. I still see a mistrial or something definitely going wrong.
I pray for the truth to come out for the family.

C'mon cut the conspiracy crap, the guy confessed to inflicting the injuries that led to the child's death, only after she died did he claim coercion. Nobody would confess to beating a child for someone else, that's ridiculous. And besides none of y'all have all the evidence, only the small amount released on the news & a whole lot of speculation & rumor from social media. I agree that this guy won't get a fair trial in this area due to all the BS on social media, he should get a complete change of venue.

Everything else aside...If I lived with some guy and my little girl died from a head trauma and I knew I didn't do it, I sure as hell would not continue to live with this guy for the next six days, clear up until the minute he was arrested. I also wouldn't be texting his family after his arrest to see if he was okay. No one can dispute this because it's public information that this is how it played out and that is enough on its own to tell me that there is something real fishy going on here. I don't believe for one second that the rumor I've heard that she let him take the blame with the promise that her Daddy would get him off isn't true. I also believe that is why when the interrogation started, he asked if Judd was there. In his mind, this influential, rich lawyer who pulled strings in the hospital in KC to get him "Daddy" rights, had a lot of pull . He got the chance to live a life he had never been lucky enough to experience and I'm sure loved this girl/ He truly believed that if he took the blame, Judd would get him out of this like he was told. The puzzle fits if you think about it.

All of you guys who claim to know what happened when you were not in the home should be ashamed of yourselves. There are only 3 people left that might know what happened to this little girl.

I still can't believe if he didn't do the crime why would he be so neive and confess. You would have to have mental issues to admit to a crime thinking your white girlfriends dad could get you off. Good heart and all Did he forget he was black? Who in heck would do such a thing. It would be easier for me to buy what his supporters are selling if he had not confessed. It's not like they starved him for hours and drilled him. If that was the case his lawyer would be claiming that loudly.

Until every fact comes out in trail, individuals should stop being so cruel to the mother.

If the outside judge finds him guilty are all his supporters going to apologize to the mom or walk around saying the dad bought that judge off?? This man must be really wealthy to pull all this off while living in Joplin. Stop being so evil just because you hate the family or are jealous of the mother. Because only hate and jealousy makes people be so cruel to the point they demand the mom of a decrease child be arrested for having poor judgement. With that being said If it comes out the mom is guilty then say what you must. But so far, only one person confessed for whatever reason.

For all of his supporters claiming he was taken advantage of are claiming out loud that he is a special kind of stupid. That seems very unlikely due to his supporters comments about his character, morals and value.
