Air of optimism hits Joplin schools after Besendorfer resignation

Assistant Superintendent Angie Besendorfer is still employed by the Joplin R-8 School District, but the news that she would be leaving the district in January to become chancellor Western Governors University Missouri has been greeted with guarded, but real optimism by teachers.

Most of those returning from the Thanksgiving holiday had already heard about the Besendorfer announcement. It was not long before the word spread to everyone.

One teacher who talked to the Turner Report/Inside Joplin say the news was almost like a weight being lifted off her shoulders and that she knew several other teachers who were saying the same thing.

The talk was still relegated to whispers teachers at the high school and two of the middle schools said.

One North Middle School teacher said, "We still don't know who we can trust."

That is the damage Angie Besendorfer has done to the Joplin R-8 School District.

On a lighter note, but still serious, teachers are hoping that Besendorfer's impending departure might spell an end to the culture of meetings that has dominated the school district for the past seven years.

As I noted earlier, both on these blogs and in my book No Child Left Alive, Besendorfer not only made school seem like a series of one meeting after another, but she even had teachers go through weeks of meetings to learn how to hold meetings.

I wish I could be happy she is leaving, but she has caused so much damage & ill will that it is going to take a superhuman do undo the arrogant damage this woman has done...

When she is finally gone will you stop cyberstalking and obsessing over her then?

Or are we going to hear still more about her for the better part of the next decade?

I had a comment, but it has Beene ignored.

You had best be considering that this will not solve your problems. You see, the Administration will simply replace her with a Angie Clone and nothing will change. If you really want to dismantle the career path agenda, then you had best be doing everything you can to find some like minded individuals willing to run for the School Board in April.

Keep up the good work Randy. And to 2:21...you are correct...The damage she has done is done, and most cannot be fixed. I wonder if Joplin will continue their practice of "neither confirming, NOR denying that anyone has ever been employed with then...." when 'ole Bess needs a work reference; or will the fact that Joplin is close to bankruptcy, and turmoil be enough of a reference.

Has anyone seen her contract? Or was that secret too? Are there any special clauses the public should know about? How about Huff's contract?

I just hope and pray they dont replace her with Lisa Orem...

Poor WGU - Missouri. They just hired Allen Goben , former President at Heartland Community College in Illinois to be chancellor last summer. He was a nightmare at Heartland and did incredible damage over his 3 years. Looks like he moved on to another role at a WGU after 6 months as chancellor at MO. It's wonderful when bad leaders depart and the ship returns to where it should be.
