Ethics hearing for Mike Woolston postponed

(From the City of Joplin)

The hearing for Councilman Mike Woolston on alleged ethical violations that was originally scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2015 has been reset for September 14, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Councilman Woolston hired attorneys Charley German and Jason Hans of Kansas City, and they requested the continuance. Municipal Judge Chuck Brown is the hearing officer assigned to preside and decide procedural matters at and related to the hearing. He granted the continuance request.

The City’s budget work sessions originally scheduled for September 14 through September 16 will be moved to Tuesday, September 15 through Thursday, September 17. Thursday’s session will only be held if budget discussions are still ongoing at the close of Wednesday’s meeting.

Really, Mike? You have hired high-priced Kansas City attorneys to represent you? Why can't you just go quietly into the night and resign? Nobody still wants you on the City Council. I bet your approval rating would be about 1%. Please just go. It's time for the city to move on.

Given this new development, I should think Mr. Woolston should then be suspended from his Council duties until after the hearing.

Wait for it:

Watch the Globe now begin to question the audit results, Woolston's lawyers do their best to undermine the audit findings, and Anson Burlingame (with full coverage in the Globe) chiming in as the chorus to defend the entire gang.

Hillary Clinton should watch and learn a thing or two about smoke and mirrors.

Wow! He just keeps getting by with more and more crap. Wasn't Woolston the one who recommended destroying the beautiful parkway between 15th and 20th on Murphy Blvd.? Has anyone noticed what a travesty that has become? The city is apparently too lazy to take care of it so it has become an embarrassment to Joplin. Thank you Mike Woolston. Let's just pray that the attorney representing the people of Joplin has the soccers, bases, foots, and tennises to do what is right.

The Judge hearing the case works for the city and Woolston probably signs his check. Holy Crap if that's not rigid I don't know what is.

In all fairness, the judge is an employee of the city but not the Council. The Council only manages the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. Judge Brown has no reason or gain in protecting Mr. Woolston.

And now the Globe begins by giving Rohr the editorial page letting him blame others for Wallace Bajali failure. Incredible.
Nice try Globe; nice try Rohr; nice try Joplin "Progress" committee. Can't wait for the next attack on the audit (i.e., truth).

Mike and Chuck are drinking buddies

In that case, I would expect that the City Attorney should request a different presiding officer. Need to eliminate all possible issues before it begins. It needs to be done right the first time so that this issue does not get prolonged any further.

The judge merely presides over the hearing. He won't render a decision. It is up to the city council to make the decision as to whether Woolston has broken any council rules.

9:46AM......Thank you for pointing that out. Should be no issue then.
