MODOT/Southwest issues winter travel advisory

(From MODOT)

MoDOT/Southwest: Winter Travel Advisory
For Monday Dec. 9 into Tuesday, Dec. 10

Weather Conditions: Snow is expected to begin falling in southwest Missouri by mid-afternoon Monday and continue until 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. Tuesday in many areas, with accumulations of ½-inch to 3 inches. The low temperature overnight in most areas of southwest Missouri is forecast to be in the teens.
Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will work plowing snow and spreading salt and/or abrasive materials on state roads overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Travel Conditions: Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate by the start of Monday afternoon rush hour. Driving could remain difficult into the early morning hours of Tuesday and even during morning rush hour.
Check the weather and road conditions before leaving for home Monday afternoon and drive slower than normal if it is snowing. Check conditions again Tuesday morning and get an early start to work. Even though MoDOT plows will be working on the roads overnight, you still should not be in a hurry on roads that may be snow-covered or have icy sections because of low temperatures. Bridge floors also could be slick.
Traveler Information Map: To find the most up-to-date road conditions overnight and on Tuesday morning, check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at modot.org .
Winter Weather Driving Tips: This kind of weather means drivers should slow down, steer and brake gently and leave plenty of following distance. Also:
* Buckle up.
* Adjust your speed to conditions.
* Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/salting the road.
* Keep your windshield and other windows clear to help you see.
* Be alert for road conditions that may change as you drive.
* Don't tailgate.
* Focus on driving and avoid distractions.
* Allow for extra travel time.
