Items mentioned at the board meeting included classrooms, buildings, advertising in different district publications, and parking lot flags.
If they put their minds to it, I am sure there are even more things that can be sold. After all, Rep. Mike Kelley, R-Lamar, filed a bill last year that would have permitted advertising to be placed on school buses.
I wonder if anyone at 32nd and Duquesne has considered cutting down on excess administrators, endless conferences and seminars, and any new technological toy that comes along as methods of improving the district's financial picture.

Isn't that the purpose of the Joplin Schools Foundation?
OMG!! Do these people not get it? We're sick of just this kind of bs. There isn't someone in their excessively large administrative staff that can handle this? Last we knew, the board was still just considering this move. When did the board approve the plan? In their secret meeting on Tuesday? Another violation of the sunshine law, maybe? Why create a job for a proposal that was not formally adopted? This is why every one of them without sense enough to step down will be voted out! Quit wasting our tax dollars! And when, we wonder, are they going to share with the public just exactly how broke the district really is? They aren't taking this step as a precaution. They are broke. Blew through the bond, the insurance, and the donations already. And then they cut corners on every building so those of us footing the bill on those buildings aren't even getting what we voted for. Crooked all the way to the end.
I am fed up with the district doing whatever they want. We wouldn't need these funds if that hadn't stolen our tax dollars through a bogus bond. With the help of some prominent business owners, they hoodwinked the bond into looking good.
Joplin Board of Education... YOU ARE FAILURES!
When did the board officially adopt this? They were just considering it, looking at their minutes from the last open meeting. A violation of the Sunshine Law, perhaps? Outrageous.
So, we didn't get the buildings we voted for because they ran out of money and cut corners everywhere. They ran out of money because they are so wasteful. And to fix that they waste lots more money. This is absolutely unbelievable. Crooked jerks. WE MUST HAVE AN AUDIT!!
I want my tax dollars back. I felt guilty for voting against the bond, but now I know I was right. Is there any way to stop these people? They have no moral compass. I want an accounting of where all that money went--bond, insurance, FEMA, donations, all of it. Lying cheats running this show.
Really, you need MORE money? Maybe you need American furniture bid for in an honest and legal way. Maybe you need fewer employees at the top. I agree--it's time for an audit. And I will raise my voice until it's heard all over this state. Maybe we taxpayers should drum up some money to offer contingent upon CJ leaving with Angie. Or maybe we need to get out our pitchforks like CJ said he will if tax dollars are being wasted.
I want to know exactly how broke the district is. Bankrupt? Almost bankrupt? Where is the state auditor? Maybe I'll just move my kids at semester. This isn't looking very good at all. It would be worth the tuition for the stability.
How long before teachers are getting pressured to give away a grade because someone's daddy gave big bucks for that room, or coaches to play someone because the family business is on the advertising? It'll happen, for sure. Any district that sells its supporters down the river like this one has will sell out the teachers and coaches in a flash.
Hard to believe that many college educated people can be that dumb. The district is broke because they keep spending money they don't have to spend. Their solution? Keep spending money they don't have. Vote them all out.
Omg....so glad I do not live in Joplin....so glad I was not sucked into thier ponzi scheme....so glad I do not have to pay empty school taxes...so glad I am not that stupid to be awed by their flashy clothes & empty words & empty education....Madeoff was diffinitley a wonderful mentor for this clan of overpaid ignorant crooks....
Amazing how many times their dishonesty is pointed out, but yet nothing has happened to them. Did the money go for paying off regulators and prosecutors? Hard to say where it went after it went into the bright futures laundering service. Seems like one of them would turn on the others before long. There's no honor among thieves.
