McCaskill: Release of torture report was gut check for our democracy

(From Sen. Claire McCaskill)

With the release of the Senate Intelligence Committee's report on CIA detention and interrogation practices, we have reached a true gut check moment for our democracy.
A lot of Republicans in Washington have been issuing dire warnings about the damage this report could cause. But I think releasing it was absolutely vital.
Watch the video
Despite some people's panic about declassifying this information, the report merely exposes what the world already knows: The United States engaged in torture.
The real benefit of this report is that it shows the world we'll hold up our values and hold our government accountable. That process is so important, so fundamental to our democracy, that it's essential this report be public.
Thanks for watching and sharing this important video,
Claire
P.S. There's another important thing I discuss in this video: the incidence of sexual assault in our nation's military. Another new report shows that while we still have work to do, incidents of sexual violence are down, and the number of victims coming forward is up -- showing real and substantial progress on the most important metrics. Watch and share the video now.
