MODOT issues travel advisory for southwest Missouri

(From MODOT)

MoDOT/Southwest Travel Advisory:
For Thursday Evening into Friday Morning, Dec. 5-6

* Snow expected until around mid-evening Thursday and then a second band of snow expected overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

Weather Conditions: Areas of southwest Missouri are seeing light to moderate snow.  The precipitation will continue through mid-evening Thursday with a short break before a second band is expected sometime later tonight into Friday morning.

Travel Conditions: As of Thursday afternoon, most roads from Neosho to Springfield are snow and ice covered.  Roads in the Joplin, Carthage, Nevada, Clinton and Warsaw areas remain clear this afternoon.  However, road conditions are ever-changing as the storm progresses through the state.  Please monitor MoDOT's Traveler Information map.

Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will continue with snow/ice clearing efforts throughout Thursday night into Friday.  Crews will concentrate on clearing the most heavily-traveled roads first and will move to lesser-traveled roads to treat hills, curves and intersections as time allows.  Crews will remain out until all major roads are cleared. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution.

Winter Weather Driving Tips:
* Buckle up.
* Adjust your speed to conditions.
* Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/salting the road.
* Keep your windshield and other windows clear to help you see.
* Be alert for road conditions that may change as you drive.
* Don't tailgate.
* Focus on driving and avoid distractions.
* Allow for extra travel time.
