MODOT: Road conditions will improve Saturday

Winter Travel Advisory for Friday Night thru Monday Morning, Dec. 6-8

Weather Conditions: Snow was moving out of southwest Missouri late Friday afternoon. Another round of snowfall is expected late Saturday night through early Sunday morning. Overnight temperatures will be in the teens or single digits Friday night and Saturday night. Wind chills are expected to be below zero. Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will work plowing snow and spreading salt overnight Friday into early Saturday early morning as long as the process is effective in the extreme cold. In Springfield overnight Friday into Saturday, crews will remove piles of snow from bridges. With more snow expected late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, crews will resume plowing and spreading salt for as long as needed on Sunday. Travel Conditions: Drivers can expect conditions to improve on major roads as crews work through the day Saturday. Crews also are plowing and spreading abrasive materials on lesser-traveled roads, including hills, curves and intersections, but many of these secondary roads will remain snow covered. Any new snow that falls Saturday night into Sunday morning will cover all roads and will require crews to keep working through the day Sunday. Also: * Buckle up.                                                                                  * Adjust your speed to conditions. * Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/salting the road. * Keep your windshield and other windows clear to help you see. * Be alert for road conditions that may change as you drive. * Don't tailgate. * Focus on driving and avoid distractions. * Allow for extra travel time.
