So you want to be a Joplin City Council member
Citizens interested in filling the vacant General Seat on the Joplin City Council seat should submit an application to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015. Applications can be obtained through the Clerk’s office on the second floor of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main Street or on the City’s website. A link to the application is listed at the end of this article.
This Council seat became vacant upon Mike Woolston’s resignation from the Council. The Joplin City Council voted to accept his resignation at the September 21 Council meeting.
Candidates for the Council General Seat should be a qualified voter of the City of Joplin and have been a Joplin resident for at least the immediate past four years.
The City Council will discuss the next step in the process of filling the seat at their October 5, 2015 meeting. At the conclusion of the process, the candidate who receives the majority of Council votes will take the office and complete the term until the next City Council election in 2016.
