Randy - What information did you use to write this book about Rowan? I pray that you didn't use The Globe's reporting? You certainly didn't use many "primary sources", as two of us that knew Rowan best didn't even realize you had written a book about this entire tragic event.
Most of the information came from court records and trial testimony. There were bits and pieces that came from the Globe, but most of the media information came from the News-Leader, KY3, KOLR, KSN, the Neosho Daily News, the Cassville Democrat and the Monett Times plus a small amount of reporting I did in 2007 and 2008 on Chris Collings, as well as information on the community's background from my own research and experiences.
So what you are saying is that rather than doing any actual journalistic work in writing this book, you chose to use newspapers, and the other media. Trust me when I tell you that The Globe was horrendous in covering the tragedy from day 1, and the Democrat, Times, and News-Leader simply wrote what was in the police reports and court transcripts. One, ONE television station (KSPR/KY3) was given access to those of us that lived through it, and up until the day those kids graduated, one reporter. I find it hard to believe and quite disheartening, that you felt you could tell Rowan’s story without speaking with those that loved her and knew her best. Believe me, I doubt you even scratched the surface, nor will you EVER understand what Rowan’s senseless death did to her classmates, her teachers, Triway, or Stella.
