Jury finds former Joplin church youth minister guilty of sexually assaulting underage girl

A Jasper County jury found a former Joplin church youth minister guilty of sexual assault today following two days of testimony.

The Jasper Police Department arrested John Vincent Estes, 29, Jasper, following an investigation into the sexual assault of a juvenile girl.

Estes' trial included testimony from his victim and from his victim in a 2015 sexual assault that was investigated by the Carthage Police Department.

From a post on the Jasper Police Department Facebook page by Chief Chad Karr:

This was a big case for us and challenging in a way. A lot of work put into the case for sure. Great job by Jasper County Prosecutors Office (Teresa, Kim, Taylor, Nate, David and others), Jasper County DFS, JsPD Officer Amber Ashby, Children’s Center (Kim, Carrie and others) and ESPECIALLY GREAT JOB by the victim and also the previous victim, also their families… ABSOLUTELY a great day.

Sentencing will be held at a later date.

What is the name of the church where this convicted sex criminal was a youth minister?

The public should know.

Every church should do a background check on people in leadership to see if they have any history of violence or sexual perversion. We are responsible for the people in our congregation. Don't expose them to possible harm. People like this guy only give the church a bad name. It's a pity.
