THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN AND THEN SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM CST SUNDAY. * TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...AREAS ROUGHLY NORTH AND WEST OF A JOPLIN TO VICHY LINE FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. * SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW WILL PRIMARILY OCCUR NORTH OF A PITTSBURG KANSAS TO OSAGE BEACH LINE SATURDAY NIGHT WHERE ONE TO TWO INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE. * ICE ACCUMULATIONS...ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL START TO DEVELOP TONIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY MORNING WHERE TWO TENTHS TO A QUARTER INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. * IMPACTS...ICE AND SNOW WILL LIKELY CAUSE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL PROBLEMS BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING AND THEN AGAIN SATURDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. ICE COULD ALSO BUILD UP ON TREES AND POWER LINES WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME POWER OUTAGES. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE AND SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU. THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...BOOSTER CABLES...A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...EXTRA CLOTHING AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME STRANDED.
