Winter storm warning issued for Joplin area- midnight tonight to 6 a.m. Sunday

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM CST SUNDAY.
THE NATL WEATHER SVC IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN & THEN SNOW.WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM CST SUNDAY.
* TIMING & AREAS AFFECTED.AREAS ROUGHLY NO. & WEST OF A JOPLIN TO VICHY LINE FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUN MORNING.
* SNOW & SLEET ACCUMULATIONS.SNOW WILL PRIMARILY OCCUR NORTH OF A PITTSBURG KS TO OSAGE BEACH LINE SAT NIGHT WHERE ONE TO TWO INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE.
* ICE ACCUMULATIONS.ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL START TO DEVELOP TONIGHT & CONTINUE INTO SAT MORNING WHERE TWO TENTHS TO A QUARTER INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE.
* IMPACTS.ICE & SNOW WILL LIKELY CAUSE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL PROBLEMS BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SAT MORNING AND THEN AGAIN SAT NIGHT INTO EARLY SUN MORNING. ICE COULD ALSO BUILD UP ON TREES & POWER LINES WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME POWER OUTAGES.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE & SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU.
THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS.BOOSTER CABLES.A FLASHLIGHT.SHOVEL.BLANKETS.EXTRA CLOTHING AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME STRANDED.
