| Winter Travel Advisory for Friday, Dec. 6 |
* Snow expected to continue through Friday afternoon.
Weather Conditions: Areas of southwest Missouri will continue to see light to moderate snowfall through most of Friday afternoon.
Travel Conditions: As of Friday morning, most roads south of a line from Nevada to Camdenton are snow covered and are expected to remain covered as more snow falls and temperatures remain below freezing. Areas between Interstate 44 and the Missouri-Arkansas state line have received greater amounts of snow and ice. Roads in sections of south-central and southeast Missouri also are snow- and ice-covered. For road conditions, monitor MoDOT's Traveler Information Map. Road Clearing: MoDOT crews have been working ‘round the clock since early Thursday morning to salt and plow roads to keep them passable and will keep working through the day today. Crews from the north are being shifted south to help with the snow removal effort.
MoDOT will continue to concentrate on keeping the most-heavily traveled state roads drivable. As time has allowed, crews have plowed and treated lesser-traveled roads, with special focus on hills, curves and intersections.
Decisions will be made Friday afternoon about how many crews will work overnight Friday night into Saturday morning. Extremely low temperatures expected overnight will hamper operations.
Winter Weather Driving Tips: Traffic is moving, but drivers are urged to use extreme caution - drive slowly, steer easily, brake gently. Also:
* Buckle up.
* Adjust your speed to conditions. * Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/salting the road. * Keep your windshield and other windows clear to help you see. * Be alert for road conditions that may change as you drive. * Don't tailgate. * Focus on driving and avoid distractions. * Allow for extra travel time. |
